PetroGuard is a polymeric solidifying hydrocarbon based chemical spill absorbent. It’s one
of the most efficient and cost-effective emergency response products
available. Please contact sales if you need assistance in
evaluating application details.
PetroGuard advanced absorption
technology from Guardian Environmental Technologies instantly
hyper-immobilizes and solidifies (stabilizes) reactive and other
dangerous chemical spills. This super-absorbent deactivating powder is:
- Lightweight, dry, and granular
- Non-toxic and non-catalytic
- Environmentally friendly
- Cost effective: treat one gallon of dangerous chemicals (like TiC14) for about $5.00
- Solution for petroleum based spills on water or land
- Hydro-phobic

Product Description PetroGuard is a hydrophobic blend of polymers with a strong affinity for liquids and gases with lipophylic solubility characteristics. PetroGuard has demonstrated a particularly strong attraction to many highly reactive chemicals, aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, and chlorocarbons.
The absorbed and immobilized liquid contaminants will not leach, leak, or release once treated making this sorbent ideal for containing and removing chemical spills.
PetroGuard's mode of action depends upon the ability of the active material to selectively absorb molecules with suitable solubility characteristics directly into its internal structure to form a stable, solid solution. Such a mechanism allows PetroGuard to absorb very large quantities of molecules that have compatible solubility characteristics. Molecules in air or water streams are partitioned between soft or glassy regions of the medium, and these regions have an exceptional affinity for hydrocarbons, chlorocarbons and many other non-polar organic compounds.
Direct contact allows the liquid organic material to rapidly diffuse into the structure of the absorbent. These rapid absorbing and immobilizing characteristics make PetroGuard a preferred solution for emergency spill response. Petroleum based oil spills are quickly solidified to prevent migration without the use of dangerous and often toxic surfactants. Another desired quality of PetroGuard is that once it has reached its capacity, it will quickly form a solid interlocking network matrix, which can then be easily disposed of by incineration or other means.

Process Characteristics PetroGuard's capacity depends upon the active material to selectively absorb molecules with suitable solubility characteristics, directly into its internal structure. This allows the polymer to absorb very large quantities of molecules. Molecules are partitioned into the polymeric regions of the medium, with exceptional affinity for non-polar organic compounds. Once deactivation has taken place, PetroGuard will form an interlocking network matrix with a rubber-like consistency.

Application Options:
PetroGuard may be applied to a spill in a number of ways. For small
spills, manually dispensing the material over spill will work
efficiently. Motorized blower/vacs can be modified to blow material onto a spill. Please contact us for more information.
For standing oil spills we recommend the use of a
backhoe or "cherry picker" with a bucket to which a 27 cubic foot bag
can be attached with simple nylon strapping. Our bulk bags come
equipped with a dispensing spout for spreading PetroGuard over a spill |
